Union Benefits

Already a Journeyman and looking to step up to a union? Here are some options.

If you're new the idea of joining a union, your union affiliation entitles you to some exceptional benefits:

All union member employees of signatory contractors are guaranteed top wages and benefits throughout the state on all projects – private or public. In addition, all union members, and their dependents, receive full health benefits as soon as 90 days of employment, depending on the organization. Non-union employees only earn the higher wage on public projects which are state or federally funded and are not guaranteed health insurance benefits.

State-of-the-art training
Union members are challenged to keep up with the constant changes in the industry, and are provided the opportunity to participate in state of the art industry training. Apprentice training programs are available at little or no cost in multiple training centers throughout the state. Once completed, attendees have all the knowledge and training to obtain their State Journeyman licenses. Continuing education classes, registered with the state, to fulfill the requirement for renewing the state license are available. The training centers also offer specialized training dependant on the specific roll played by a member, such as the latest technological processes for welding specialists or computer applications for sheet metal fabrication or HVAC trouble shooting.

Guaranteed pension benefits
All union members are guaranteed a pension and 401(k) plan, benefits are determined on years of service. The pension is 100% employer financed and members are fully vested after 5 years of employment. Once a vesting application is completed only a single phone call is required in initiate pension benefits upon retirement.
Interesting, challenging work environments
Union members have worked on exciting projects such as the New Year’s Eve ball in Times Square, the flame atop the Statute of Liberty, Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis, several solar photovoltaic system installations, and Space Port America. In addition, union members work maintaining the Los Alamos National Labs, Kirkland Air Force Base, and Sandia National Labs.
